"Falkenhausen" Bedeutung auf englisch Lexikon

(1878-1966) German general; military governor of Belgium and N France 1940–44. He maintained strict control of his area though he deliberately ignored many Gestapo directives and did his best to make life tolerable for the population. He was implicated by others in the July Plot against Hitler, and was recalled to Berlin and interrogated, but no evidence was found against him. At the end of the war he was arrested by the Allies and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by a Belgian court 1951.
